Benedetto Bids Farewell: Ends His Boca Stint

Argentine forward Darío Benedetto has concluded his second stint with Boca Juniors after mutually agreeing to terminate his contract with the club’s management. Benedetto, who was contracted with the Xeneize until December 2024, decided to end his commitment early.

Boca Juniors confirmed the news through an official statement, thanking the player for his professionalism and dedication.

Thanks and Farewell

In its statement, Boca Juniors said: “The Club Atlético Boca Juniors has reached an agreement with player Darío Benedetto for the termination of his contract with the institution.

In his two stints as a Boca player, he played 172 matches, scored 71 goals, and won 6 titles. We want to thank Darío for his professionalism and dedication during his time with us and wish him much success in his future endeavors.”

Benedetto’s Message

After his last training session, Benedetto gave an interview with El Canal de Boca and published an emotional farewell letter on his social media. “Today, I say goodbye to the best club in the world, the club of my dreams.

From now on, I am one of you. Thanks to the management teams that allowed me to wear the most beautiful jersey in the world. I send a bostero hug to all of you,” wrote the 34-year-old forward.

Reason for the Termination

The decision to terminate Benedetto’s contract matured after a disagreement with coach Diego Martínez. The situation worsened following the player’s birthday celebration, which led to his exclusion from the team.

“Happy nights, sad mornings,” was the phrase Pipa used one Friday morning in the physiotherapy room at Ezeiza, amid preparations for the match against Central Córdoba. For the coach, this incident was the last straw.

Recent Performance

Benedetto played his last official match with Boca on April 21, coming on in the second half of the 3-2 victory over River Plate in the Superclásico held in Córdoba.

Since then, he has been on the bench against Fortaleza from Brazil in the Copa Sudamericana and against Estudiantes de La Plata in the semifinals of the Copa de la Liga, without playing any minutes.

His last start was on April 3 against Nacional Potosí from Bolivia, and his last goal was against Tigre in February.

Benedetto’s Future

Benedetto’s next destination could be the MLS, although there are also possibilities that he will return to the Mexican league. Nacional de Montevideo has also shown interest.

What is certain is that he will not join any team in Argentine football, as the forward has made it clear that he has no intention of wearing any jersey other than the blue and gold in the country.
