Messi and Suárez Compete for MLS MVP Award

The MLS is gearing up for an exciting showdown: Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez, teammates at Inter Miami, are among the five nominees for the prestigious Landon Donovan MVP award this season.

They are joined by Colombian Juan Camilo ‘Cucho’ Hernández, Brazilian Evander, and Belgian Christian Benteke, highlighting the outstanding Latino talent in American soccer.

Outstanding Performances

Lionel Messi stands out as the favorite after an incredible campaign, netting 20 goals and providing 16 assists in just 19 matches. Luis Suárez is no slouch either, also shining with 20 goals and 9 assists in 27 games. Together, they were instrumental in leading Inter Miami to win the MLS Supporters Shield and break the league’s all-time points record.

Inter Miami Dominates Nominations

With a total of six nominations, Inter Miami is the most represented team in this year’s awards. In addition to Messi and Suárez, coach Gerardo Martino is vying for the Sigi Schmid award for Coach of the Year, while other teammates seek individual honors for Best Newcomer and Defender of the Year.
