Mexico’s national team coach, Javier Aguirre, has decided that Álex Padilla, goalkeeper for Athletic Club, will not see playing time in the upcoming friendly against Canada.
Despite expectations for Padilla to make his debut, Aguirre confirmed that Luis Ángel Malagón, the goalkeeper from Club América, will start in goal for the match scheduled for Tuesday.

Padilla was on the bench during Mexico’s 3-0 victory over New Zealand, and while fans anticipated his first appearance, Aguirre explained that these matches are meant to observe different players and evaluate the squad.
Injuries Force Changes to the Lineup
In addition to the goalkeeper decision, Aguirre announced several key changes due to injuries. César Huerta will replace Julián Quiñones, who is out with a physical issue.
Erik Lira will take over for Luis Chávez in the midfield, and Víctor Guzmán will fill in for César Montes, who traveled to complete his transfer to a Russian club.
Canada, a More Challenging Opponent
Aguirre acknowledged that Canada will present a tougher challenge than New Zealand. “They will press higher and challenge us more,” he warned, emphasizing Canada’s rise in football. This friendly will serve as a crucial test for Mexico ahead of future international competitions.
